Act 25
In 2009, the Vermont Legislature passed Act 25, An Act Relating to Palliative Care and Pain Management. The purpose of the act is to improve the quality of palliative care and pain management available to all Vermonters, to ensure that Vermonters are aware of their rights and of the care options available to them, and to expand access to palliative care services for children and adults in the state.
Palliative Care and Pain Management Task Force
As part of that legislation, the Palliative Care and Pain Management Task Force was created. Led by the Vermont Ethics Network, the focus of the task force is to coordinate palliative care and pain management initiatives in Vermont through information sharing and network development; to help people to gain access to services; and to propose solutions for addressing gaps in services and educating consumers about their rights under the Patients’ Bill of Rights for Palliative Care and Pain Management.
